hola

as february begins to wind itself down and the next page
says march
i am thankful for so many things
and people in my life and heart
and for the vast opportunities
to continue learning;
about myself
and about community
and conversation

and also in
the art and act
of being quiet and still

...

beside me six shelves of books
that i think of as a new morning,
the way it feels and looks
like a dozen fresh and cracked eggs
swimming in a clear glass bowl
cloudy
yet somehow clear

colorless but for
a yellow streak
that reaches its fingers
out to wake me

words and thoughts;
thirst
evidence
blue pastures
psalms for praying
eyes to see otherwise

all this in the house of belonging

all this bringing me to
sweet tears
...

when we arrived 'home'
last night it was with the
the sound and look
of a pair of owl wings,
and then the
high pitched scream
of the wild mother chicken...
her sadness was so complete
and heard
it feel into my breath
and bones

all night i slept
with her
in my thoughts
and dreams
and the thought
of the rooster,
wondering how
he could ever
console her
his poor helpless arms
too short
to wrap around her...

and this morning
he still was the one
to announce
this new day

...

gracias

this was a night under the stars
full of 'circus' acts and mucho music...
lots of families
and lots of
fun!

this was the same night, a bit ealier,
on a roof top of a place downtown
todos santos...
us partaking in a lovely sunset
and one very good margarita.

as always there is so much to be thankful for and so i pass on a quote
that was brought back to my attention this morning in the honoring of the death
of a dear woman i once knew.
emily died this week, she was my high school art teacher, she was my friend...
this is what her family reminded me
'we live to discover beauty, all else is a form of waiting'

a few photos, in apparently no order, though i have tried
from along the way..also known, by us, as 'the long way'

from the weather that was happening up north; stormy and cold,
(it was 12 below zero when we left montpelier on thursday early morning.)
we dropped down to the interstate 40,
so..that added some miles, but we kept to mostly dry roads.
did have some all day wind,
and then a morning of chowder fog
but all in all things were good,
things are good.

hoping the same of and for you

we are into a new season..

jeweled colors,
thick chewy morning fog,
and flannel sheets on the bed...

it is almost my mama's birthday
she loves hydrangeas the best
she loves sweater-weather and knitting.
she loves me, my sisters, my dad,
the dog named angel.
she loves her grand children.

she loves to be new places but not the getting there...

my aunt lily

masters everywhere and you put your finger on your lip and shush one than the other.
i want to tell you how it is i do not care one way or the other.
you can’t take the rising of the morning nor the setting of the sun to or from any one at all.
my aunt lily went blind at age 9, she took those images with her to the keys on the piano,
to the bones of our faces, to the nap of each fabric.
she knew us like most never would.
hers the softest hands, slow like new love and velvet.
she lived with two men.
her brother, sammy, whose one ear almost touched his shoulder, a bend that i’ve only seen
once before on the skinny man who helped to park the cars at the market.
it almost made me stand up, sit up straighter.
the other man was her sweet husband, my sweet uncle rolly. he held out both hands when he saw one of us coming. every single time.
their house was small and tidy and everything made sense.
it smelled like vanilla and love.
after them i never wanted to go back to church, never wanted to kneel, stand, sit, kneel,
just because i was suppose to.

it's mid-summer, my summer is in bloom...

hola xo
one never knows where one
will find the sacred..

or the sunshine!

we are back from our time in pescadero..
back to vermont
and its lazy
spring time..
lazy as in slow
to lift its winter veil..

surprises seen each day

tulips poking out where
the tiger lillies are just beginning to rise!

almost a new year

fairly recently i was up in an airplane and again, when looking out,
i realized, and remembered just how small i really am. a dot on the
planet. as this great river snaked its way through
i thought so do i, wondering what/who/where/when/how i might touch, where i might be called.
with the end of 2010 coming around the curvy bend and a new year calling me to listen i want to say how important it is for me to pay attention to the still quiet voice that lives within. it is often difficult to silence the chatter that goes on within the head, the ears, the heart and to drop down into knowing and believing that all is connected in such a vast and beautiful way, yet i want to offer this to myself, and hope the same of all who are indeed connected; which is every one of us. it is a blessing to share. it is an honor to know it. xo
